Slade meets Jayo
EP Launch
[FRIDAY – 05.09.2014]

Yum Yum just happened…

The increcibly talented duo of Jayo and Natalie Slade have been on the scene for sometime as solo artists, but only recently crossed paths. Immediately after their chance meeting, the magic has been radiating off everything they touch. After hearing their unfinished tracks, without ever seeing them perform live, we snapped them up without thinking twice. and are excited to see where the path leads.

In May 2014, a friend of a friend passed on a USB of Jayo’s beats to Slade, who a week later wrote to one of the tracks and gave Jayo a call. The two started jamming and named them selves after a mumbled conversation they had… and within 3 months they’re dropping their first EP titled “Slade meets Jayo”.

Pre-Yum Yum, Jayo and Slade have been on the scene for sometime. Slade’s background is in jazz music, having sung trad jazz every night for years in her own little bar in Christchurch, NZ. On loosing the bar in the CHCH earthquakes she started writing and improvising and was lucky enough to perform support for artists like @peace, The Black Seeds and Sola Rosa. Jayo is a crate digger from way back, being fed a steady diet of soul, funk, hip hop and Jamaican riddims. As a DJ/beat maker he’s supported some of the finest like Oddisee, Katalyst, Hermitude, House Shoes & Blu.

The Yum Yum EP is raw and is inspired by soul music, hip hop, delta blues and dub. It goes live this August at: www.itsyumyum.bandcamp.com

As a DJ represented by Soul of Sydney, and involved with the Mama Feel Good Funk Collective, Samir Samaali dedicates his Le Garage space to music, art and fashion lovers.

Le Garage crosses over as a records store, hair salon and accessories retailer as well as art gallery (and occasionally turning into a music lounge too). With a funk, hip hop & soul sensibility second to none, Juzzlikedat will keep you noddin’ with agreement that yeah, yo, it should be just like that…s’il vous plaît!

His unique mixing style and charismatic showmanship have distinguished Adverse (SYD) as a Music Trendsetter and favoured Party Rocker! From 2000 – 2004 Adverse (SYD) was responsible for putting the much sort after local mixtapes “4 Da Ladies, 4 Da Gents” series into the CD players of many Hip Hop & RnB lovers, but not without the hard work, self-discipline and strong personal ethics. Self-taught the art of mixing 80s and 90s Hip Hop & RnB, it was no coincidence that DJ Adverse (SYD) devoted his time and efforts to what started out as a hobby to being a true enthusiast to Hip Hop music culture. Aside from his duties as one of the original’s of local north shore Sydney radio station Triple H FM , Adverse (SYD) was swiftly put on the frontline of the mainstream of Dj-ing throughout Sydney in the early 2000′s. Playing at some of Sydney’s most popular night spots at the time Inc The Cave, Metropolis, MTV lair, Shark hotel & Star bar to name a few. He expanded his talents and became 1 of Australia’s leading MC’s for Booty Bar Australia which took him touring across the country with Booty Bar founder and Accredited ARIA award winner Dj Lenno for 2 years.

It was at this point that Adverse (SYD) met MC Noodlez (SYD) and became a founding member of Sydney up and coming independent urban label “The Groovedealers.” Under “The Groovedealers” banner, Adverse helped Noodlez form and write music for Sydney Hip Hop Trio “UNISON”, which took them across the state (NSW) to perform and promote, leading them to 1200 downloads of their debut EP. 3 tracks that “Adverse” appeared on from the EP featured on Triple J Unearthed for 4 consecutive weeks at the number 1, 2 and 3 position on the Hip Hop charts and also retaining itself in the top 20 for several months. This achievement combined with his successes with producing and performing with Australian Hip Hop Groups LP & The Architects and working closely with Mc Noodlez over the last 5 years shows that he is no stranger to connecting with an audience. Armed with over a decade of experience in the nightlife business, highly respected and loved by all who know him, Adverse has established close relationships with some of the country’s most notable and renowned DJ talents, artists and promoters.

His style is limitless with an enormous bound of continuous energy. It’s HIP HOP/Afro Inspired Music, with a lot of different twists. Nothings ever set or the same when he’s on the decks, the music is always freshly delivered. You can catch Adverse currently rocking local night spots and working on new material with Noodlez under the “The Groovedealers” and its sure to impress all that follow.
