Innersoul Live **LIVE SOUL MUSIC** [TUESDAY – 11.11.2014]
featuring SIKI & BEC LAUGHTON.
InnerSoul Entertainment & Play Bar present Innersoul LIVE.
Innersoul LIVE is a showcase of music artists in Sydney. Held fortnightly, Innersoul LIVE provides a platform for the next generation of artists in the Australian soul movement to have their music heard. Set in the inner city creative hub of Surry Hills, Innersoul Live at PLAY BAR sees carefully selected artists present an acoustic set of their original music in an intimate setting.
With the Australian soul movement out in full force, thanks to the international success of artists like the GRAMMY nominated Hiatus Kaiyote, Innersoul LIVE is here to keep that momentum going locally and beyond. Defying genre boundaries and stereotypes to cover everything from nu-soul, raw and real hip hop and reggae to soulful Rhythm & Blues, Innersoul LIVE is your mid-week dose of soul that will have you transfixed by the talent on display.
Artists that have previously showcased at Innersoul LIVE include ARIA nominated singer/songwriter Jeremy Gregory, Billie McCarthy, Ron E Jones, Tabitha Ojeah, Michael Duchesne (The Voice) and Chantae Cann (featured vocalist with GRAMMY winning Snarky Puppy and GRAMMY nominated The Foreign Exchange), Thandiwe Phoenix and more.
Come down, kick back, and let yourself be moved by the musicality of our local artists at Innersoul LIVE.
Siki Daha is an Australian artist best known for his appearance on Australian Idol, Daha has used the experience as a launching pad for his career. For the past 6 years he has been working hard at crafting his own form of pop/ lounge music, drawing from influences such as Sade, Aaliyah, Marvin Gaye, Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey and Michael Jackson. Daha combines smooth soulful vocals with organic lounge beats to create the perfect soundtrack for chilling out and intimacy. Daha was born in Pakistan, but also lived in Dubai before basing himself in Australia. He learnt to sing at the age of 9, while learning to play the tublas. His interest in music encouraged him to undertake music education, graduating with an Advanced Diploma in Music in 2006. In early 2012 Daha left his home in Sydney and moved to London to further pursue his career in the music industry, in early June he started travelling between Europe and The US writing material for a new album titled “Equanimity”. With a mixture of influences and sounds taken from his travels in Greece, Spain, Turkey and France the album tells the story of love, loss and all the ups and downs of life.
Daha went onto to sign with a UK based Publisher by the name of The Jungle Music Group. With a new record and a newly signed publishing deal Siki Daha and his then producer Michael White decided to go on a three month tour in London promoting the record with acoustic shows, headlining shows and being a support act for local british talent. Daha’s cover of No Ordinary Love remixed by Murray Hood(Oxford Hustlers) along with the remixes of Sasha and Broken by Michael White have garnered play throughout clubs in London, New York, Sydney and Barcelona and at the 2013 Sydney Mardi Gras Party.
Daha is now back in the studio working on new music and a new sound with Production/Dj team The Other Guys and looking to tour in early 2015. Siki Daha has high hopes not just for himself, but also for the countless number of people who are voiceless as he previously was. Music has allowed this talent to share a message that will resonate with people who know the meaning of struggles and hardships but are resilient in the face of adversity.
BEC LAUGHTON //
Bec Laughton – aka a petit redhead with a monstrous voice and a serious knack for penning a pop hook. A clear love of booty shaking old-school funk informs the music that flows from within this young songstress.
A finalist in the International Songwriting Competition, Unsigned Only (Nashville) and also the Independent Music Awards (New York), Bec represented little baby Brisbane amongst a list of international finalists. Also winner of a Queensland Music Award and finalist in four categories in the MusicOz Awards held at the Sydney Opera House there is no question of the Lady Laughton’s ability to pen a tune.
After playing shows in New York in January 2013 as a nominee for the Independent Music Awards Miss Laughton was asked to showcase in the biggest emerging artist festival in the USA, South By Southwest. Love for her unique indie/soul music is felt right across the globe as after a hugely successful trip to Europe/UK in 2011, Bec returned to Europe in 2012 to feature in the annual Music4Humanity Concert.
The budding songstress landed at #1 on the Triple J Roots Charts, CD of the Week in the Sydney Morning Herald and Indie Clip of the Week on Rage TV. She has played countless festivals including mainstage at Easterfest, Island Vibe, Woodford Folk Festival, Adelaide Fuse & Fringe Festivals, Spiegeltent for Brisbane Festival and Brisbane Powerhouse for the annual 2High Festival. She has supported international R&B act Zhane`, Leo Sayer, James Blundell, Grace Knight and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
The young songbird has roots in jazz being trained at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. Growing up backstage in the theatre while her dad worked as musical director, rhythm and music are undoubtedly in the blood. Dabbling in musical theatre for over a decade the young singer/actor/dancer first appeared in lights in 1998 then landed her first lead role in a major production at 16 years. Playing Dorothy in the motown musical The Wiz she received rave reviews and the nickname “lion lungs”.

“Bec Laughton proves that good things come in small packages. Brisbane is sure to see more of [her] in the future.” Pat Watson, COURIER MAIL
“I found myself unintentionally pulsing to the music and feeling the funky-reggae-soulfulness that this small white young lady was throwing in our faces. Such a good thing! Bec Laughton’s vocals … beautiful and powerfully intense.” Bree Cohen, AU REVIEW
