BLACK MILK (USA) – BEAT SHOWCASE SET //
Curtis Cross better known by his stage name Black Milk, is a hip hop producer and MC from Detroit, Michigan.
Cross cites some of his main musical influences as J Dilla, Easy Mo Bee, Pete Rock, Questlove, A Tribe Called Quest, and De La Soul. His music is very soulful, as he was raised on the sounds of the latter two in the 80s and 90s. The late producer J Dilla had a large impact on him with his soul-influenced, jazzy beats
HAU LATUKEFU (TRIPLE J HIP HOP SHOW) – Q&A WITH BLACK MILK //
Hau Latukefu lives and breathes hip hop. With 20 years of writing and performing under his belt (best known as the front man for ARIA award-winning duo, Koolism), Hau is now venturing into solo territory with the release of his mixtape, “Football, Feasts & Funerals” and his debut album “The No End Theory” due for release in late 2014.
His talent is both recognised and respected, providing guest vocals for local legends like The Hilltop Hoods, Urthboy and Hermitude as well as the new generation including Remi, Briggs and Mr Hill & Rahjconkas. Hau’s collaborations also extend to overseas artists including UK pioneer, Rodney P, US wordsmith, Casual and more recently, Oddisee.
In 2008, Hau took the reigns as presenter and producer for the Hip Hop Show on Australia’s leading youth network, triple j – bringing his experience and vast knowledge of the culture he has been immersed in since the mid ‘80s. He continues to rule the airways, currently the longest serving presenter in the show’s history.
Hau was born in Australia to Tongan parents, which gave him access to two cultures he would draw from when it came to writing lyrics and performing them on stage. His heritage plays an important part of who is as a person and as an artist. Original by name, original by style.
GODRIGUEZ (SAMPA THE GREAT PRODUCER) //
Incredibly talented Sydney based artist and producer.
DIOLA (Behind The Front) //
Krystel Diola is at the fore front when it comes to her selections.
There’s always QUALITY. SUBSTANCE. DEPTH, and MUSICALITY.
If the TV Show WEEDS was adapted into a musically-orientated show called BEATS, she would be Nancy Botwin.
Catch Diola on FBI radio Every Wednesday 6-8pm Sunsets with Mike Who (www.fbiradio.com)
BENNY HINN //
Benny Hinn (Daniel Robertson) began spinnin’ vinyl back in 01′ playing a range of phat funky house and some chunky big assed broken beats for the masses… Although now only 34, the Hinns has played at some of the finer establishments, parties and festivals around Sydney, Melbourne, Cairns, Spain, Wollongong and the South coast, gaining a rep az a bit of a party starter and one with some def skillz, finesse and sheer artistry on a pair of 1200s.
The Hinn has also toured with the MOS Label for an Annual release and has supported many artists such as, The Stanton Warriors, Freq Nasty, Krafty Kuts, A.Skillz, Jay Jay, Sneaky Sound System, The Resin Dogs, Katalyst, Sarah Love, Shortee Blitz, Frenzie, Total Eclipse, Mr. Doris, Cool Hand Luke, Normski, DJ Katch, DJ A.$.K, DJ KC, Edseven, Inkswel, Omegaman, Busta, Koolism, [love] Tattoo, Mark Dynamix, Ajax [RIP], Bang Gang, Goodwill, Alex Taylor, Funktrust, Purple Sneaker DJs + many many more…
Benny has also been dipping into a little production here and there with a few little mashes and beats all up on his soundcloud & mixcloud page & is host of the Radio Program Sydney Underground on Bondi Beach Radio.
His latest venture has been building and establishing PLAY BAR SYDNEY. After drawing inspiration from his last stint in Melbourne and meeting his partner & co-owner Sarah, the two worked hard to build what they hope to be for many years to come, an institution that brings decent music into Surry Hills Sydney. He has programmed every bit of music that has come through the venue and supported a huge range of hiphop, breakbeat DJs and just awesome beat-makers and producers both local and abroad…
