Frenzie has been around the block more than a few times. He’s got well over twenty years of experience behind him, a record collection that will make any deejay envious, and a concrete rep as one of Australia’s most trusted party rockers. Taking inspiration from when DJ’s used to play for no less than 6 hours straight and transition between styles: Original Soul & Funk 45′s – check. Deep House, Disco & Boogie – check. Hip Hop, R&B, Breaks & Beats – check. Party anthems and forgotten classics – check. Frenzie has got you covered.
His Groove Therapy radio show (now in it’s eleventh year) has been broadcasting weekly on 2SER FM every Friday lunchtime and has become an essential listen to all musically savvy Sydney-siders, while the podcast of the show has garnered a huge loyal fan base in all corners of the globe.
A veteran touring DJ of the Australian east coast, Frenzie also recently rocked dance floors in San Francisco and New York – and has had support billing alongside a who’s who of DJ royalty. Infact, pioneering deejay Grandmaster Flash requested Frenzie as his official support DJ for his most recent 2013 Sydney tour (four shows in total) – and only months earlier, Frenzie could be seen cutting it up on the turntables on stage with New Yorks Hip Hop legends The Ultramagnetic MC’s.
…and it’s no small wonder – Frenzie definitely has the skills to pay the bills. In 2012 he placed second in the New South Wales heats of the DMC, the most prestigious DJ competition in the world (He’s last foray into battle deejaying was almost twelve years earlier).
But can he rock a party? Frenzie has been dropping memorable sets for years. Whether it be a one hour power mix or an all night marathon set behind the turntables, Frenzie has plenty of experience reading the crowd and always drops an entertaining set – custom built from carefully considered quality jams and a dash of turntable trickery. Not only can Frenzie mix a record, he has definitely earned his stripes as the number one chief party rocker.
For over 15 years Crate digger DJ Makoto has uncovered the finest selections of Hip-Hop, Soul, Funk, Latin & Jazz gems, serving them fresh to audience in Japan, UK & Australia. Dj ADVERSE //
His unique mixing style and charismatic showmanship have distinguished Adverse (SYD) as a Music Trendsetter and favoured Party Rocker! From 2000 – 2004 Adverse (SYD) was responsible for putting the much sort after local mixtapes “4 Da Ladies, 4 Da Gents” series into the CD players of many Hip Hop & RnB lovers, but not without the hard work, self-discipline and strong personal ethics. Self-taught the art of mixing 80s and 90s Hip Hop & RnB,
it was no coincidence that DJ Adverse (SYD) devoted his time and efforts to what started out as a hobby to being a true enthusiast to Hip Hop music culture. Aside from his duties as one of the original’s of local north shore Sydney radio station Triple H FM , Adverse (SYD) was swiftly put on the frontline of the mainstream of Dj-ing throughout Sydney in the early 2000′s. He expanded his talents and became 1 of Australia’s leading MC’s for Booty Bar Australia which took him touring across the country with Booty Bar founder and Accredited ARIA award winner Dj Lenno for 2 years.
It was at this point that Adverse (SYD) met MC Noodlez (SYD) and became a founding member of Sydney up and coming independent urban label “The Groovedealers.” Under “The Groovedealers” banner, Adverse helped Noodlez form and write music for Sydney Hip Hop Trio “UNISON”, which took them across the state (NSW) to perform and promote, leading them to 1200 downloads of their debut EP. 3 tracks that “Adverse” appeared on from the EP featured on Triple J Unearthed for 4 consecutive weeks at the number 1, 2 and 3 position on the Hip Hop charts and also retaining itself in the top 20 for several months. This achievement combined with his successes with producing and performing with Australian Hip Hop Groups LP & The Architects and working closely with Mc Noodlez over the last 5 years shows that he is no stranger to connecting with an audience. His style is limitless with an enormous bound of continuous energy. It’s HIP HOP/Afro Inspired Music, with a lot of different twists. Nothings ever set or the same when he’s on the decks, the music is always freshly delivered. You can catch Adverse currently rocking local night spots and working on new material with Noodlez under the “The Groovedealers” and its sure to impress all that follow.
JOSIE STYLES //
Part-time hiphop/funk/soul/reggae DJ, full-time world saver, one frog species at a time!
JC grew up in London exposed to the sound of mainstream popular music. It wasn’t until 1982 when a friend introduced JC to ‘Planet Rock’ by Afrika Bambaataa that his love affair with Electro Funk, Hip Hop and vinyl began. “I started doing odd jobs and saving money so I could purchase vinyl and started collecting as much Hip Hop records as I could. At the age of 16 I got my first set of turntables, they were a very old set of decks and mixer combined in one large ‘coffin’ style case – we are talking old school!”
By the time JC hit 18, he was running a mobile disco that lasted three years, playing in local bars, birthday parties and weddings alongside his best friend at the time. After many years playing odd events, and Djing at parties, John moved to Sydney in 1995, learning about the Australian music scene landing himself various DJ parties, eventually playing at the after party for the ‘Take It to The Bridge’ boat party in Sydney 2001. Later in 2001 went to live in Dublin, Ireland for two years, JC hosted a radio show in Dublin for 14 months called the “All Funked Up Show” on Jazz FM 89.8, in addition to DJing at events. His show not only attracted an enormous following, but also sparked his love for radio broadcasting.
JC returned to Australia in 2003 playing out at various venues, scoring a weekly radio show on Bondi FM called ‘The Funkdafied Show’ which he hosted for 7.5 years. In that time, JC secured interviews with elite musicians/DJs including Norman Jay, Micheal Franti, Ohmega Watts and many more. JC currently hosts the Hardway Show on Eastside 89.7 FM every 3rd Saturday. You can get more info at www.eastsidefm.org, this is the premier radio station in Sydney playing Jazz and Soul music.
Over the past 9 years JC has played at every major venue in Sydney and held down several residencies, he has also played at several major festivals including Sydney Festival, Playground Weekender, Surry Hills Festival and more. He also DJs interstate regularly, over the last few years JC has had DJ support slots for artists including Soul II Soul, George Clinton & Parlaiment / Funkadelic, Kashmere Stage Band, Syl Johnson, Norman Jay, Mr Thing, Crazy P and many more. Aside from all the tours and special events, JC lends himself to DJing at corporate functions and private parties, as well as running the Promotion and Events Company Funkdafied that was formed in 2006.
With an exhaustive music collection that now spans Jazz, Blues, Soul, Funk, Afrobeat, Reggae, Hip Hop, Latin, Disco, House, D&B; JC is a DJ who can play many genres but always with the emphasis heavily on Funk, and keeping the dance floor rocking!
BENNY HINN //
Benny Hinn (Daniel Robertson) began spinnin’ vinyl back in 01′ playing a range of phat funky house and some chunky big assed broken beatz for the masses… Although now only 33, the Hinns has played at some of the finer establishments, parties and festivals around Sydney, Wollongong and the Southcoast, gaining a rep az a bit of a party starter and one with some def skillz, finess and sheer artistry on a pair of 1200′s.
In 01/02′ the House & Breakz movement exploded in his hometown of Wollongong and the Hinn emerged as one Da Gongs leading DJs in this new exciting scene. Largly due to while studying at University, a small collective formed, with a desire to bring decent music to the local area, hence the weekly event night Bustin’ was born. It began as the official uni after-garden party, held in the backroom of the Illawarra hotel, then quickly expanded into a weekly night at the famous Cooneys Tavern, where the guys & a certain little monkey, hosted some of the finest local, national and international talent for some of the best parties the area had ever seen. The night was a 7 year success and those lucky enough to have experienced a Bustin’ party will remember some good shit went down.
The Hinn has also toured with the MOS Label for an Anunal release and has supported many artists such as, The Stanton Warriors, Freq Nasty, Krafty Kuts, A Skillz, Jay Jay, Sneaky Sound System, The Resin Dogs, Katalyst, Koolism, [love] Tattoo, Mark Dynamix, Ajax [RIP], Bang Gang, Goodwill, Alex Taylor, Funktrust, Purple Sneaker DJs + many many more…
The Hinn has also been dipping into a little production here and there with a few little mashes and beats all up on his soundcloud page.
His latest venture has been PLAY BAR. After drawing inspiration from his last stint in Melbourne and meeting his partner & co-owner Sarah, the two worked hard to build, what they hope to be for many years to come, an institution in Surry Hills Sydney.
