Red Eddy, Jason H & Benny Hinn[FRIDAY – 12.09.2014]
Playing a selection of the greatest vinyl records in an adventure through sound from the dusty past to the untold future.
RED EDDY //
I started playing around with turntables, a 707 drum machine & and an old Akai sampler in 1995. Performed live with Sydney bands Jazzoo, Dave Aston & The Spanish Authorities, Cropper & Movement as a turntablist/sampler and sometime guitarist in Scott Horscroft’s Unsemble & The Husbands.
DJed between bands at all the great live venues around Sydney – The Brittania, The Hopetoun, The Lansdowne, The Excelsior, The Bat & Ball, The Annandale, The Metro, The Sando, Space 3, Dendy Bar Martin Place, Newtown RSL – as well as the odd out of town gig at The Espy in Melbourne and The Wollombi Festival…
The crates were left in storage for a few years of travel, but the urge to share my love of music returned after a brief stint on the decks one boozy night at San Diego’s Soda Bar. Now reborn as Red Eddy, I’ve a more diverse collection to share than ever before.
No genre is left untouched in the hunt for raw grooves. Funk, Hip Hop, Dub, Afro, Rock, Electro, Soul, Jazz, Punk…
JASON H //
Many styles, many sounds, always vinyl!
Jason has been playing records for nearly 20 years. Started out playing deep house but with an ear for dub, funk, hip-hop, soul breaks, downtempo and everything else he collected those records too.
Over the last 10 years he’s blended as many different styles and sounds into a session on the turntables as possible and will take you on a trip down memory lane.
BENNY HINN //
Benny Hinn (Daniel Robertson) began spinnin’ vinyl back in 01′ playing a range of phat funky house and some chunky big assed broken beatz for the masses… Although now only 33, the Hinns has played at some of the finer establishments, parties and festivals around Sydney, Wollongong and the Southcoast, gaining a rep az a bit of a party starter and one with some def skillz, finess and sheer artistry on a pair of 1200s.
The Hinn has also toured with the MOS Label for an Anunal release and has supported many artists such as, The Stanton Warriors, Freq Nasty, Krafty Kuts, A Skillz, Jay Jay, Sneaky Sound System, The Resin Dogs, Katalyst, Koolism, [love] Tattoo, Mark Dynamix, Ajax [RIP], Bang Gang, Goodwill, Alex Taylor, Funktrust, Purple Sneaker DJs + many many more…
The Hinn has also been dipping into a little production here and there with a few little mashes and beats all up on his soundcloud page.
His latest venture has been PLAY BAR. After drawing inspiration from his last stint in Melbourne and meeting his partner & co-owner Sarah, the two worked hard to build, what they hope to be for many years to come, an institution in Surry Hills Sydney.
