Poly **LIVE BEATS** [WEDNESDAY – 13.08.2014]
After an incredible first show at Play Bar Sydney, we welcome the exciting Sydney-based electronic soul duo back for another dubbed-out, trip-hop inspired set…
After honing his musical skills through years of session work with superproducer M-Phazes and playing on records for Kimbra, Illy, 360, Drapht, Andy Bull, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, Amerie and others, Sean Windsor (aka SDub) began writing his own tunes. Looking for the perfect soulful voice to complement the beats in his head, he found it in Sally Marett.
Sydney-based singer Sally has been performing and writing for more than 10 years, having worked with top acts including Illy, and Paris Wells to name just a few.
POLY started writing and recording together in late 2012, and uploaded their first track to Triple J Unearthed in November 2013. Unearthed Digital Radio has been a loyal supporter of the duo’s music ever since, putting their first two tracks (“No Way” and “Stories”) on high rotation, with both tracks receiving universally positive audience reaction. The band have also been generating buzz with their exciting live shows, which see POLY adding live drums and bass to the electronic core of their recorded tracks .
With influences ranging from J Dilla to Janelle Monae to De La Soul, POLY have a unique sound that draws inspiration from Sean and Sally’s hip hop and soul roots respectively.
In 2014, POLY will be recording their debut album, as well as extending their presence in the live music scene, both locally and nationally.
“Yessir….Very nice, indeed. The beat, the harmonies, the swing. Australia needs more groove. Well done, folks.”
