PHOEBE DAY

PHOEBE DAY

The vibe – Smooth and sultry jazz-infused, soul.

Born and raised in Sydney Australia, Phoebe is her own flavour of silky smooth soul. With an unmistakable vocal, the sultry tones of her music are a unique blend of old and new inspired by the greats of jazz, soul, RNB and blues. There’s a quiet vulnerability in Phoebe’s music. It transports the listener into her world, extending a warm invitation to look around and stay a while. Tasty, sophisticated melodies, soothing harmony and laid-back grooves complete her signature sound.

“I love the warmth and mood of those classic records. That’s the nostalgic feel I want to emulate in my music – a fresh take on the old-school, jazz/soul vibe. ”

drawn to music at the young age of five, Phoebe begged her parents for piano lessons. Listening to her father’s jazz and blues records, she was heavily influenced by the likes of Chet Baker, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O’day, Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles. Obsessed with their sound, Phoebe began singing and writing her own music at eight years old.

After complications with lower back surgeries, Phoebe spent her teenage years in and out of hospital, unable to sing for long periods of time. In her recovery stages, she turned to music as an emotional outlet and distraction from pain. Through her adversity, Phoebe discovered the art of connecting with music on a deeper emotional level. She played her first solo jazz gig at sixteen years old.

Phoebe spent four years studying at The Australian Institute of Music in Sydney where she majored in contemporary vocal studies. she developed her skills as a vocalist and songwriter recording original music in the world-class studios at AIM. She also performed in some of Sydney’s most renowned venues such as Foundry 616 and Venue 505.

At a local musician’s jam, Phoebe was introduced to Joel Sena (saxophonist, songwriter and producer), who asked her to sing on his original music project. Working together over the following year, Phoebe was the featured vocalist on Joel Sena’s self-titled debut EP (2016). After a successful Debut, Phoebe is set to sing on Joel’s second EP recording (2017).

Phoebe has spent the last eighteen months preparing for her own debut release. Inspired by the changes in her personal and professional life, the music is a reflection of her journey as an artist thus far. Exploring themes of love, loss and change, Phoebe has created a raw and honest recording with her own sound.

“I’d love to create something people can connect to. A recording that I know is a true and honest reflection of myself as an artist. I’m still learning and growing, but mostly I just want to create great music that adds something to someone’s day.”

The EP features some of Sydney’s finest musicians including Mike Pensini (keys), Buddy Siolo (drums) and Joel Sena (Saxophone, bass and producer). Set for release in late 2017, Phoebe is ready and eager to share this project.
