N O A H S L E E w/ special guest Duan & Only
[SATURDAY – 21.02.2015]

Saturday 21st February 2015
PLAY BAR 72 Campbell St, Surry Hills
Cost: $15 available from Dash Tickets

Making the avant garde more accessible, and the accessible more experimental whilst often doing elements of both at the same time, Noah Slee is gaining a reputation as one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most cutting edge, future soul singers. Kristie Nicolas – Kitten Jam, Behind The Front and The Conscious Mic are proud to present N O A H S L E E in his debut Sydney show at Play Bar on Saturday 21st February 2015 as part of his debut Headline Tour of East Coast of Australia and Aotearoa (New Zealand).

Expect Noah Slee’s contemporary soul, prog Rhythm & Blues, future beats style and a mix of indie electronica, which will be perfectly complemented by the dulcet dub-soul sounds of support act Duan & Only. The show will see Noah Slee promoting his soon to be released debut album after spending time abroad in Berlin, Germany where he is now permanently based.

A Tongan New Zealander with a sophisticated set of musical influences and inspirations, Noah Slee’s music, while anchored by the spirit of classic soul makes comfortable headnods towards the influence of Bon Iver, Radiohead, Cinematic Orchestra, Sigur Ros, Emily King, James Blake, Chet Faker, Erykah Badu, Frank Ocean and more – in the process positioning him in the middle as a free form electronic singer/songwriter.

Secluding himself in studios and home recording set-ups in 2013, Noah Slee emerged with a self-titled independent debut 5 track mixtape (including ‘Can’t Stop’, a collaboration with Canadian producer Ryan Hemsworth). Through word of mouth, singles ‘Can’t Stop’ and ‘Escape’ caught the attention of New Zealand and Australian radio stations Triple J, Base FM, 95 BFM, Radio Active 88.6 FM and George FM, and also saw Noah spotlighted online by Interview Magazine Germany, HillDilly, The Audience, Vanguard Red and SoulBounce amongst other music websites.

Since 2013, Noah Slee has performed as support for SoulFest Brisbane 2014 (D’Angelo, Maxwell, Aloe Blacc), Jill Scott (US), Low Leaf & Zeroh (LA) and Nai Palm (lead singer of Hiatus Kaiyote). In 2014 Noah worked with Australian producers Carmada and Yes You. His vocals were also featured on ‘Parallel Love’ produced by New Zealand musician Marika Hodgson.

In 2014, Noah Slee based himself in Berlin collaborating with local German producers Kitschkrieg. Together, they have created a hugely anticipated and compelling body of work, soon to be released as Noah Slee’s debut album in April 2015.

DUAN & ONLY ::::::::::

duan&Only2_960w

You may not be familiar with New Zealand native Duan & Only but, take note. The 30 year old Sydney based solo artist is making waves in the Australian music scene with his unique and soulful sound. Upon hearing the tracks “Gold & Honey” and “Oxytocin” it makes perfect sense that much of his inspiration is derived from Motown and Soul music. Then, there are acoustics and melodies which spotlight Duan’s traditional Maori influences and production that channels Reggae and Dub music. His sultry voice lends a modern R&B tone and makes it almost impossible to assign his music to a genre. According to Duan, he has “gone through phases of listening to all sorts of music growing up” but thinks he has finally found where he wants to be.
