ILL THEORY //
Ill Theory is a new collaboration between Vocalist Amber Renèe and producer Platterpush. Growing up in the Blue Mountains both artists have known each other since childhood and have shared stages in the past but only recently joined forces.
Performance has always been a strong part of Amber’s life, growing up and touring with her mother who was a professional cabaret singer.
In the late 1990’s Amber became involved in the early Australian Hip Hop scene, regularly performing in gigs alongside some of Sydney’s finest. Working with Artist’s such as Tuka, 13th Son and Sereck helped Amber hone her strong lyrical foundation that is still evident in her work today.
In recent years Amber has returned to her musical roots singing Soul, Jazz and Blues in numerous residencies at music venues throughout the Blue Mountains.
Platterpush was a founding member and producer of Down Under Beats crew, a hip hop group that toured extensively and released two albums in the mid 2000’s. Being ‘Unearthed’ by Triple J in 2004 raised the bands profile and saw them becoming one of the trailblazers of the emerging Australian Hip Hop genre.
Platterpush has gone on to produce for many artists such as Thundamentals, P.Smurf, Lotek, and Immune.
Amber and Platterpush have supported and performed alongside such high profile artists as De La Soul, Lord Finesse, Tim Dog, Bliss n Eso, Thundamentals, Hermitude and Def Wish Cast.
Ill Theory Draws heavily on both Amber and Platterpush’s musical background but also represents a new musical direction for both artists. Their sound has a distinctive Neo Soul edge built on a strong hip hop foundation.
Ill Theory are currently in the studio recording material for their first album and are gearing up for a busy performance schedule next summer.
