Estére & Alphamama **LIVE SOUL HOP** [WEDNESDAY – 25.11.2015]
An incredible night coming up with two exceptional talents… We can’t tell you how much we are looking forward to this one…
Estère is a girl with an MPC she calls Lola. She produces all her own songs with Lola, mostly at home in her pyjamas. Estère plays/records a mixture of bass, synth, drums, guitar, vocal harmonies, keyboard, whistles, claps, kazoo, desk tapping and anything else that might take her fancy then layers her production with pulsating rhythms and evocative melodies that adhere to the genre of Electric Blue Witch hop.
Since obtaining Lola in March 2012, Estère has played a large variety of live performances in cities and festivals through-out New Zealand, Australia, South Korea and Europe. These include Jeonju International Sori Festival, Ulsan World Music Festival, Aarhus International Music Festival and Melbourne Let Them Eat Cake.
Over the last year Estère has also opened for a variety of international artists, including Erykah Badu, Morcheeba, Baths, Ikonika and KT Tunstall.
In April 2014 Estère released her debut self produced album via band camp. Most of Estère’s songs, including Culture Clash, Cruel Charlie, I Spy, Thoughts, Patchwork Solider, Reptilian Journey and Flash Light (feat Oddisee) have received extensive radio play on stations through-out New Zealand and have featured on various international blogs including Afro Punk, Disco Naiveté and Portals.
In October 2013 Estère also embarked on the Red Bull Prodigy collaborative project with Washington D.C/ New York Producer Oddisee, which saw them spend two weeks together in a studio writing music. They subsequently released three songs: Flashlight, Curtains Down and Noon.
ALPHAMAMA is not your run of the mill singer. She is a forward-thinking, entrepreneurial artist who is a phenomena to witness in action. Commanding her space with other worldly presence, she engages her audience through her raw and evocative performances. A love of Jazz, Soul, Hip Hop and World music underlies Alpha’s unique sound and approach to song-writing; sharing intimate accounts of her interaction with people and life. Her style has never been easy to box, constantly pushing boundaries of creative expression as can be heard on her debut album “Truth, Trips and Revelations” released through Creative Vibes. Since then much soul-searching and collaborating has uncovered a deeper tone to her voice and message. As a woman of mixed race, she inherited the unique features of her Indonesian father and European mother, both of whom instilled a deep love of culture.
ALPHAMAMA has performed on stages all around the world recently wrapping up a global art tour of Indonesia, South Korea, Germany, USA and South Africa. She has supported and shared stages with Dead Prez, Jean Grae, Macy Gray and Salt n Pepa and toured as a backing vocalist for Australia’s own Jessica Mauboy.
As a spiritually aware artist who is passionate about individual and collective expansion, she heads a tribe of women artists called God Queen whose purpose is to bring about positive social change through art and remind women of their innate power.
