DJ HUDGE NZ – George FM
MARK WALTON //
One of Australia’s most respected DJ’s, Mark Walton has been a DJ within the Australian Dance Music movement for many years. Having experienced musical trends first hand throughout the 80′s and 90′s, Mark’s DJ sets demonstrate a vast knowledge of Dance Music, whilst pushing the boundaries of Dance Music genres today.
After being discovered in his hometown Brisbane by R.A.T. (Recreational Arts Team) – the cultural youth movement phenomena of the late ’80′s – Mark moved to Sydney to pursue his DJ career. After linking up with R.A.T. to play numerous parties and events, Mark became one of Australia’s best known up and coming DJs, playing to audiences in excess of 15,000. Around this time, Mark also visited the U.S. taking up an invitation to play a series of events on the West Coast.
Having established himself on the Sydney DJ circuit in the early 90s, Mark began sourcing music for Good Groove Records (Tom Georgiou), then onto developing an independent label, Muzik Too, with Sydney friend Mark Taylor of SLATS Studios. Muzik Too, distributed underground mix tapes by local DJs, pushing their talents and profile to a broader Australian market. Mark then moved to New York in the mid 90s to further his experience and career and to find inspiration, occasionally through some serious vinyl collecting.
On returning to Sydney in the late 90′s, Mark began work on radio, broadcasting new music programs with 2SER-FM. During the period, Mark worked in a number of areas including mixing audio for stage productions and fashion shows, a DJ tuition business, event production and music production with local DJs while continuing to play the DJ circuit around Australia including support spots for international and Australian artists. Mark also took up working on the other side of the counter at Acetate Record Bar with DJ Junior B (Pam Hubbock) and Michael Chernoff, Mark’s manager (R.I.P.).
In 1999, Mark began working with event production company, Rawedge, alongside Walter Turrae and Justine Missen. This consisted of sourcing new music for innovative presentations at dance music events in Sydney which added further maturity to the growth of the Australian Dance Music movement. After losing studio equipment and records in a fire in 1999, Mark jumped back into production working on the Wet Pants EP and Album and established Lateral Recordings with James Locksmith. Around this time Mark also teamed up with Sydney DJ, illpickl, to form 3 Dex‘n’Fx which toured Europe including performances in Ibiza and at Home in London. They collaborated on a number of recordings until the untimely passing of illpickl in 2001.
In 2000, Mark was nominated for “Best DJ – People’s Choice Award” and “Best DJ Award” at the inaugural Australian Dance Music Awards (DMA).
After being acknowledged as one of Australia’s most respected and prolific DJs, Mark developed a catalogue of his own recordings as an artist ranging from Hip Hop, Breaks, House, Funk, Disco, Soul, Jazz, Latin, Afro, Dub and Beats all of which have yet to be released, however their time is coming through the formation of his new project Fretless which has its debut album released later this year.
Over the past 5 years, Mark has travelled between Sydney and Brisbane producing and touring with the Resin Dogs and Good Buddha. Mark continues to play on the Australian circuit with regular visits to London and Japan and his spiritual home Hawaii, where he’s collaborated with local reggae bands while fulfilling his other passion of deep sea diving.
A long time member of the international dance music scene, Mark still retains an immense passion for music – it’s there when he spins it and it’s about to take another step forward when he plays it as part of Fretless.
DJ HUDGE [NZ] //
Born and bred in South London, Dave Hudge grew up with a loving family and a very tight group of good friends. Hudge started playing records with these friends aged 16 and quickly found he had a passion for Djing. Since then, Hudge has been DJing at clubs, festivals, concerts and bars from the heights of the Alps to the beaches of Thailand for over 23 years. The basis of his sound has always been Hip-Hop but his unswerving love and encyclopedic collection of music enables him to inject whatever it a takes to rock a party – something he never fails to do.
In the ’90′s Hudge honed his skills as a DJ for nearly 8 years with the Funkin Pussy Sound System at the legendary Hiphop night at the Africa Centre. He also played at the UK B-Boy Championships from 1998 to 2003 sharing the stage with with Kurtis Blow, Plus One, Dj Kool Herc, Africa Islam, Schoolly D, Rahzel, the Scratch Perverts, Crazy Legs (the Rock Steady Crew) and Mantronix. Hudge has toured with and supported the ‘JB’s Funky People’ (Fred Wesley, Pee Wee Ellis, Bobby Bird and Vickie Anderson), the Fun Lovin’ Criminals, the MOBO award winner Corrine Bailey Rae, MTV’s Dirty Sanchez as well as DJing with DJ Ollie Teeba (The Herbaliser), Brad Balloo (The Nextmen), DJ Food, Shorty Blitz(KissFM), Tha Dump (Funkin Pussy), Mr Thing (Extended Players, BBE), Marc Seven, DJ Vadim, Dr Rubberfunk, Shredded Pete and Classic Material`s Chris Read, Big Ted, Canada’s world famous We Funk Radio, Parisian DJ Suspect (The Funk League), Blak Twang and the mixtape assassin J Period – to shamelessly name drop a few.
In 1997 Hudge teamed up with his friends Bez, Jensen, Stern Funk, Rich Strange Talker and Uncle Biggie to create the boat party phenomenon known as Take it 2 the Bridge. Based on the Thames, TI2TB have since rocked the rivers and waterways of New York, Sydney, Copenhagen, Turin, Thailand, India, Stockholm, and Canada. These word-of-mouth, sell-out parties are simply one of the best finds in London. Between 2001 and 2011 Hudge and the TI2TB crew also smashed up a total of 16 sets at the Dance Village at the mighty Glastonbury Festival.
In January 2012 Hudge and his family left ol’ Blighty for sunnier climbs. Hudge, Zan and Suki moved to New Zealand to join friends and family and to start a new life. Hudge has since teamed up with DJ T Rice to host one of the most successful weekend radio shows on national radio station, George FM. Check them out every Saturday 4 to 6pm on the Uptown Boogie!
Since moving to NZ, Hudge has done jams with a host of local talent including the Turnaround crew – Submariner, Cian, Manuel Bundy, Frank Booker, Recloose, Lokey, King Kapisi, Che Fu and Cool HandLuke and The NZ Soul All-Dayer, to name a few, as well as sets at two consecutive Splore Festivals, some crazy block parties in Queenstown and regularity heading over to rock parties in Oz with DJ Frenzie, JC and all the Funkdafied crew. Hudge, since being in NZ, has also supported Apollo Brown, J-Period, Mr Thing, DJ Suspect, AG, Total Eclipse, Kev Brown, Ty, Shortee Blitz and tour DJ for Blak Twang and Stone Throw Record’s Guilty Simpson.

SHAN FRENZIE //
Frenzie has been around the block more than a few times. He’s got well over twenty years of experience behind him, a record collection that will make any deejay envious, and a concrete rep as one of Australia’s most trusted party rockers. Taking inspiration from when DJ’s used to play for no less than 6 hours straight and transition between styles: Original Soul & Funk 45′s – check. Deep House, Disco & Boogie – check. Hip Hop, R&B, Breaks & Beats – check. Party anthems and forgotten classics – check. Frenzie has got you covered.
His Groove Therapy radio show (now in it’s eleventh year) has been broadcasting weekly on 2SER FM every Friday lunchtime and has become an essential listen to all musically savvy Sydney-siders, while the podcast of the show has garnered a huge loyal fan base in all corners of the globe.
A veteran touring DJ of the Australian east coast, Frenzie also recently rocked dance floors in San Francisco and New York – and has had support billing alongside a who’s who of DJ royalty. Infact, pioneering deejay Grandmaster Flash requested Frenzie as his official support DJ for his most recent 2013 Sydney tour (four shows in total) – and only months earlier, Frenzie could be seen cutting it up on the turntables on stage with New Yorks Hip Hop legends The Ultramagnetic MC’s.
…and it’s no small wonder – Frenzie definitely has the skills to pay the bills. In 2012 he placed second in the New South Wales heats of the DMC, the most prestigious DJ competition in the world (He’s last foray into battle deejaying was almost twelve years earlier).
But can he rock a party? Frenzie has been dropping memorable sets for years. Whether it be a one hour power mix or an all night marathon set behind the turntables, Frenzie has plenty of experience reading the crowd and always drops an entertaining set – custom built from carefully considered quality jams and a dash of turntable trickery. Not only can Frenzie mix a record, he has definitely earned his stripes as the number one chief party rocker.
